    When we dance (Desmond, Locke)
"Things are going to get hectic pretty soon so you should enjoy the relaxing time you have together."
That was fine with Desmond. There was one thing though. "I'm not sure what time we'll be heading back to the compound," he said.
Locke looked from Desmond back to Jacob.
"Perhaps you should plan on waiting until the evening or late afternoon," Jacob suggested. "It would probably be better you stayed away until after we talk so we can be sure Ben won't find out anything about it."
"That's probably a good idea," Locke agreed. "Benjamin's probably freaking out now that we've been gone so long." He thought back to when he'd gone to see Jacob with Ben and then took off on his own. Ben had been none too happy, to say the least.

Desmond had forgotten all about Ben in the joy of the evening. Now that he was reminded though he agreed that the man was probably in a right state by this time. He wasn't in any hurry to get back and possibly face him. Leaving in the late afternoon or evening the next day sounded just fine to him. "That does sound like a good idea," he replied.
"Then that's settled," Jacob replied. "I'll meet you at the temple tomorrow afternoon." He stood. "I've taken enough of your time tonight." He smiled at Locke and Desmond. "Enjoy your celebration and each other." He turned to leave. "Blessed be."
Desmond watched him walk off. He felt honored to be taken into his confidence and given his blessings. There was music playing and a few people were dancing. When the song ended Richard came over to them. "Are you enjoying yourselves so far?" He asked.
    "Ay," Desmond replied.
"Wonderful." Richard smiled. "It's traditional for the happy couple to lead one of the first dances," he said. "I didn't bother you before because you were talking to Jacob. Would you like to do that now?"

A step too far (Goodwin, Tom)
Goodwin walked towards the meeting room. He checked his watch. The morning group session should just be getting over. He hoped Dr. Alpert would hang around for a bit afterwords. He wanted to talk with him and preferably with no one else around. As he approached the room he saw Ben Linus walk by with Ethan Rom. Group must have ended earlier than he thought it would.
Quickening his pace he continued to the door and went in. John Locke was heading for the door and talking with Danielle Rousseau. Dr. Alpert was nowhere in sight. He cursed silently. He should have come down earlier.
Goodwin sighed and turned to leave. It was then that he saw Tom stacking chairs. He hadn't intended to talk with him so soon but since the opportunity was presenting itself he thought he should take it. He still thought if he could just explain it would make things alright.
He took a deep breath and went over to Tom. His heart was pounding and his palms were sweaty. "Good morning," he said. "You have a minute? I just want to talk to you a bit and explain about last night." He smiled.

    After the ball (Locke, Danielle)
Once the session was over everyone started to leave. Locke saw Danielle had not gotten up yet. He turned to her. "That's that, I guess." He looked at the others again. Dr. Alpert was walking out with Danny Pickett and Colleen Gibson, likely to talk with them in private. That was a lost cause if Locke had ever seen one. "Dr. Alpert looked a little disappointed," he said. "I think he expected more cooperation than he got today." He shook his head. "It's kind of foolish if you ask me. Not cooperating, that is. It will just draw more attention to you." Locke didn't trust the staff as far as he could see them but he believed in at least making it look like he was going along with them. He always came to group with at least a couple of innocuous things he could share. As he had said, not doing so would draw more attention to him and could possibly lead to someone figuring out he was on to them.
He stood. "I suppose we ought to get out of here." The last of the patients had already left. He smiled at Danielle. "Everyone here is a sheep. Everyone but us. The worst thing of all is that they don't know it."
